Archean and the staff at Kink Engineering are sad to report that Mad_Scientist (Matt) passed away on May 23rd, 2012, at the age of 35. His death was accidental. He was a great friend, a brilliant mind, and an exceptional lover.

Matt was awesomely creative and scientifically curious. His first…

Last weekend was TOJam 2012. A game jam where people from all over gather together in teams from around 1 - 5 people with the goal of making a playable video game in 3 days. This year it was located at 341 King St. West The sun building of George brown college with 3 floors of concentrated geek! This was the biggest TOJam ever, well over 400 participants arrived and with the video game industry expected to explode in Toronto over the next 5 years that number is only going to increase. The following is a photo essay of how I saw the those 3 days play out. First things first, Pick up registered name tag

Second is a surprise breakfast that a participant put together for everyone.

Everyone gathers together for opening speeches

By the man himself! Jim McGinley

Before long everyone is settling in and getting to work. 3 days is not a lot of time to put a game together

Even if the idea may be large or overly complicated no one lacks for ambition or motivation here.

They must focus

And get comfortable

Grab a drink

Try to focus again

But there are so many distractions

And then we need to get out photographs taken

And the time honored tradition of watching hackers at TOJam is happening

During all of this even the BOSS (Jim McGinley) is distracted by countless interviews of which he handles of course like a BOSS :)

But they’re still trying to focus and stay together as a team

Until all you can see is the game

Yet, In the wee hours of the night people start dropping one by one.

They do their very best to use every hour they have. Often by loving the Red Bull

But it’s never enough and in short trips the sand man pays many a visit

Before long, they rise as if being re-spawned in an F.P.S.

And using tricks from the programmers first aid bag they are back in action!

Motivating the team!

As time is running out!

Can they make it in time?

Thankfully the answer for most at the end of the weekend is Yes!

And so they celebrate the best way they know how…
